The theme ‘Chronic Illness and Resilience Projects: Policies Implemented in Portugal to Address Contemporary Challenges’ is particularly relevant in the current context, focusing primarily on support for people with chronic illnesses. These challenges require integrated responses, underpinned by effective public policies and innovative projects capable of strengthening preparedness, institutional coordination, and the capacity to respond to the needs of these individuals. The focus will be on projects that have developed or are developing European guidelines for integrated responses, particularly to rheumatic inflammatory diseases. These responses range from the management of fatigue in rheumatic inflammatory diseases to the integrated management of osteoporosis and myositis.
In the case of Portugal, the implementation of these projects is pioneering, given that we are partners and actively participate in – making invaluable contributions to – European Task Forces of the European Alliance of Associations for Rheumatology (EULAR). There is a focus on person-centred care and the effective integration of recommendations into clinical practice, which enables better and more effective disease management.
